On the GPS-route.ORG website and in the Route Tracking application we use a simple set of directions. Below you will find an overview of the symbols used with an explanation.

| ↓ | turn around | Return on the same path |
| ↑ | continue | Stay on the same path or continue straight in the same direction |
| ↰ | left | Turn left or keep left at the fork |
| ↰1 | 1st left | Crossroads of several paths: follow 1st path to the left |
| ↰2 | 2nd left | Crossroads of several paths: follow 2nd path to the left |
| ↰3 | 3rd left | Crossroads of several paths: follow 3rd path to the left |
| ↱ | right | Turn right or keep right at the fork |
| ↱1 | 1st right | Crossroads of several paths: follow 1st path to the right |
| ↱2 | 2nd right | Crossroads of several paths: follow 2nd path to the right |
| ↱3 | 3rd right | Crossroads of several paths: follow 3rd path to the right |
