Hiking in the Madonie Regional Natural Park

South of the city of Cefalù is the Madonie mountain range. The highest peak at 1979 metres is Pizzo Carbonara. Other high peaks are Monte San Salvatore (1912m), Monte Ferro (1906m) and Monte Quacella (1869m). The park area includes various habitats with deciduous forests, meadows and rocky areas and has a high biodiversity. The rock in the park consists mainly of dolomite limestone. The Madonie Regional Nature Park was established in 1989 to protect nature. Since 2025 it has also been a UNESCO Global Geopark.
