Château-Porcien - Asfeld - Pignicourt

This walk follows the Way of St James Via Lemovicensis (GR654) between Château-Porcien and Pignicourt. We walk largely on towpaths along the Canal des Ardennes, which was dug next to the strongly meandering river Aisne for shipping. The route goes through rural areas.

We start in Château-Porcien on the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville and walk out of the village via the Rue de la Morteau. We cross two branches of the river Aisne and with a third bridge the Canal des Ardennes. We walk on a towpath along the canal. After 150 meters we pass a first grain silo on the other side of the canal. At Ferme de Pargny we find a lock. Here we cross the canal to continue the walk on the towpath on the other side. At Blanzy-la-Salonnaise we see another grain silo on the other side of the canal.

We cross the canal again and continue on the towpath on the other side. Near the village of Aire we pass twice a dead arm of the Aisne. We pass the larger village of Asfeld. A little further on, at Vieux-lès-Asfeld, we pass another grain silo and a kilometer further another lock.

Finally, we pass one last lock at Pignicourt. We walk into the small village and end the walk at the village hall and church.
