Dauner Maare

Circular walk, 9 km

Route: Dauner Maare

Beautiful walk from the Waldcafé around the Dauner Maare: the Gemündener Maar, the Weinfelder Maar, also called Totenmaar, and the Schalkenmehrener Maar. Along the way, we come across: the swimming pool in the Gemündener Maar, the ski slope of the Dauner ski club, the Weinfelder church with cemetery, parking lot "Zweimaareblick" (with a view of the Weinfelder and the Schalkenmehrener Maar), the picnic area at the Maarkreuz (with a view on Schalkenmeheren on the other side of the Maar), the town of Mehren. The route goes through the town of Schalkenmehren and, after a climb along the crater wall, comes back to the parking lot "Zweimaareblick". Then you climb further to the literal highlight of the hike, the Mäuseberg (561m) with the lookout tower Dronketurm with panoramic views of Daun, the Maare and the meadow surroundings. After a descent, the route ends at the Waldcafé.
