Walk along historic sights in Laxey.
We start at the station of the Manx Electric Railway and walk to the impressive Laxey Wheel, also known as "Lady Isabella". It is the largest, still working water wheel in the world. It was built in 1854 to pump water from the shafts of the Laxey mine.
We walk along the Laxey River and pass the only remaining wool factory on the Isle of Man, Laxey Woolen Mills (1881). The factory is open to visitors.
A little further, we leave the river on the right and climb Minorca Hill. After passing the A2, in the Ballaragh Road we find another important monument, King Orry’s Grave, the largest megalithic tomb on the Isle of Man.
You climb a little further up and you get a nice view of Laxey and the bay. Then we descend back to the Laxey River and arrive at the port. We’re here in Old Laxey. We walk along the beach.
Almost at the end of the boulevard, we climb back to the railway with a path. We continue climbing until we reach the Ballacollister Road. We follow this for a while and then descend with a path to the A2, just before the bridge over Laxey Glen with the Glen Roy River flowing at its grounds. Looking to the left we see the Laxey Glen Mills, a flour mill from 1860.
A little further you go to the right to Church Hill to return to the Laxey Station.
