Heemskerk - Castricum

At Noorddorp you walk between the fields, but soon that turns into paths through the forest. Gradually the terrain becomes more open. The route goes past a glider field. On days when the planes fly you have to make a small detour here. You then walk past the infiltration area of ​​drinking water company PWN, which also manages the dune area. After this the environment becomes a little more woody.

You arrive at the edge of the dune area at Castricum. Here you walk between cemeteries to arrive at the climbing dune. You climb the dune. Above you follow a path to the right to the viewpoint on the Papenberg (31,5m). To the west you look out over the area of ​​the walk, in the southwest you see the Hoogovens in IJmuiden, to the southeast the fields around Heemskerk.

A route through the forest brings you back to the fields of Nooddorp.

You can also start the hike at the Berkenbos dune entrance (at Geversduin camp site) or at the climbing dune in Castricum. The latter is near the railway station.
