At Schoorl there are the highest dunes in the Netherlands, the highest peak measures 55.4 meters. The dune area between Bergen and Schoorl is also the widest in the country. The walk starts with a steep climb over a staircase to a dune of 53 meters high. You walk through a coniferous forest to the area that was hit by forest fires in 2009, 2010 and 2011, but fortunately it is starting to recover. Here you descend to a more open dune area with heath, the Vogelmeer and drift dunes. After a long walk through the sand dunes, cross the Harger Zeeweg and the last dune to arrive at the beach.
You walk along the beach, past the beach pavilion Paal 29, up to the Kerf, an excavation in the last row of dunes, where the sea could flow into the dunes regularly. This has created a salty nature. Through the Kerf we walk to a viewpoint, which offers a view of the sea, the Kerf. There is also a view of the expansive sand dunes and moorland, which continues the walk. The path climbs through coniferous and deciduous forest, just past the spiritual center Heel en Al you reach a dune summit of 54 meters with a view over the dunes to the sea. Soon afterwards you will return to the starting point.
