Circular walk through the Serra de Monchique to one of the highest peaks: the Picota (773m).
The walk starts in the town of Monchique. The area is known for its medicinal springs.
You walk up country roads and forests to the Picota (773m). Along the way you recognize the top by the watchtower, which you can see from a distance. At the top you have a beautiful view of the surroundings.
You descend over the ridge and you alternately walk on country roads, along eucalyptus trees and through a forest of cork oaks back to Mondchique.
There you pass Melicio’s "Muhler com Cesto" (Woman with Basket). Then walk along the Igreja Matriz (originally from the 15th century) back to the starting point.
