Cabo de São Vicente

Circular walk, 9 km

Route: Cabo de São Vicente

A walk along cliffs and across the plateau.

You start at Forte de Santo Antonio de Belixe. This 16th-century fort was badly damaged a few times and converted into a hotel in the 1960s. It was evacuated at the end of the last century because it came to lie too close to the unstable cliff edge.

The walk goes over the cliff edge to Fortaleza de São Vicente, with the lighthouse: a torre de Farol do Cabo de São Vicente.

After that you walk further along the cliff edge to the north, then turn off and walk across the plateau.

After an asphalt road (N268) you walk along a path along the cliff edge back to Forte de Santo Antonio de Belixe.

Note: Do not walk too close to the cliff edge. Risk of collapse.
