São Bartolomeu de Messines: Rio Arade

Circular walk, 9 km

Route: São Bartolomeu de Messines: Rio Arade

The route follows a part of the GR13, Via Algarviana.

The walk starts in São Bartolomeu de Messines. You walk out of the village and follow a country road parallel to the railway line.
After a while the road crosses the railway line. There is a good chance that the road is flooded at that point. You can walk across the railway bridge to the other side.

The walk then goes along the Ermida de Sant’Ana. There you have a beautiful view of the surroundings. There is a memorial stone to commemorate the Battle of Sant’Ana on 24 April 1834.

The route descends to the Rio Arade, which you follow for quite some time.

You return to the village via a country road.
