Walk around the Buttermere lake.
We walk along the south west bank of Lake Buttermere from the Fish Inn hotel in Buttermere Village to Gatesgarth. With a provisional bridge we cross the Buttermere Dubs, the river that connects the Grummock Water with Buttermere. On our right hand, the Sourmilk Gill stream collapses from the slope under Chapel Crags and High Stile (806m).
From Gatesgarth we follow the road for a moment, but soon there is a path to the left that follows the northeastern bank of Buttermere. We take this path, which in some places is flooded by streams (in the wet season). Halfway the path, near Hassness, goes through a tunnel carved into the rocks
