Moretonhampstead - Cranbrook Castle

Circular walk, 9 km

Route: Moretonhampstead - Cranbrook Castle

From the center of Moretonhampstead you walk largely with public footpaths over pastures to Cranbrook Castle. Cranbrook Castle is a large fortress that was built around 2000 BC on a hill next to the Teign gorge. The earthen walls that surround the fort are still intact. From the fort you have great views of the surroundings. Among others at Castle Drogo, which was built in 1900 AD, steeply rising on the other side of the Teign gorge.

Back you walk alternately over roads and paths, through forest and open land. You walk twice along the Wray Brook (stream). On Lime Street you return to Moretonhampstead.
