Burley and Holmsley

Circular walk, 10 km

Route: Burley and Holmsley

Walk across hilly, open heather fields and through the cozy town of Burley.

We descend from Turf Hill to the Holmsley Bog, a lower, swampy area. Via the Holmsley Passage we pass a decommissioned railway, the Southampton and Dorchester Railway. We follow the Holmsley Walk, over Holmsley Ridge and along Whitten Pond.

We cross the old railway again and continue walking over the Church Moor. We walk past Long Pond. We climb to Castle Hill, where you can find remains of an old fort. With a public footpath we pass the domain of Burley Hill House. With a path along the road, view to the left on farmlands, we walk to Burley.
