Walk from Lymington to Keyhaven. Back via a path along the coastline of the Solent, a strait between Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. You walk through an area with left and right salt marshes and everywhere you can still see traces of the salt extraction industry that has dominated here for centuries. Now it is mainly a beautiful nature area.
On the other side of the Solent you can see the Isle of Wight. From Keyhaven you get a prominent view of Hurst Castle, a large fort on the tip of the coastal spit near Keyhaven. A lighthouse stands next to the fort. Beyond the masts in the marinas you can also get a clear view of the Needles, the white, pointed rocks in front of the western point of Wight.
You follow the dike until you arrive at the marina of Lymington. You walk across the grounds of the marina to a path that goes past the salt water pool. After a park you walk along the Bath Road to the center of Lymington: a cozy little harbor in the Lymington River, shopping street Quay Hill and the busy High Street with many shops and restaurants.
