Ashurst - Mattley

Circular walk, 9 km

Route: Ashurst - Mattley

Circular walk from Ashurst station.

We use the pedestrian bridge between the 2 platforms to get to the other side of the railway. We walk across the platform towards the north to get on a path that runs along the railway. You then turn sharply to the right to walk down a path parallel to the railway line in a southerly direction. We walk through the forest of the plantations Churchplace Inclosure and Deerleap Inclosure.

We pass the railway line to get to more open terrain. After the Matley Wood we come again on open ground. We follow the grassy banks of the meandering Beaulieu River, Longwater Lawn. We walk past the Ashurst campsite and arrive at the New Forest Pub. From the Pub we walk back to the station.
