The Haut-Languedoc is a mountainous region in the northeastern part of the Occitanie region. The area consists of the southernmost foothills of the Massif Central. The Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park was created in 1973 in order to protect, in addition to economic and social development of the area, the landscape and its natural, historical and cultural heritage. The highest parts of the area can be found in the massifs of Caroux and Espinouse, with the peaks Mont Caroux (1091m) and Sommet de l'Espinouse (1124m).
