This walk follows the Way of St James Via Monastica between Givet and Olloy-sur-Viroin (Viroinval). We start along the Meuse and continue alternately through forests and rural areas.
We start the walk on the Meuse quay (Quai des Fours) in Givet. Until Chooz we follow a path directly along the Meuse bank. We ignore the meander of the Meuse, with the village and the nuclear power station in between. By road we reach the Canal de l'Est at Ham-sur-Meuse, which from here again runs parallel to the Meuse. We follow a path along the canal.
We walk through Aubrives and on the road to Hierges. Before we reach the village, we climb a path up the hill to the beautiful Château de Hierges. We walk through the village and climb again on a forest path. Arriving at the border between France and Belgium, we reach the highest point of our walk.
We descend to Viroinval. First we reach the core Mazée. We walk on to Treignes. At Vierves-sur-Viroin we cross the river Viroin. We follow the river until we arrive in Olloy-sur-Viroin. The walk ends at the church in the center of the village.
