Bakkeveen: Slotplaats and Mandefjild

Walk through two nature reserves around Bakkeveen: estate De Slotplaats and the Mandeveld (Frisian: It Mandefjild).

The Slotplaats is a varied nature reserve with former production forest, remnants of heather landscape, lakes, including pingo ruins and stately forest avenues with ancient trees.

East of Bakkeveen, on the border of Friesland and Drenthe, lies the Mandeveld. It consists for a large part of moorland. On the side of Bakkeveen is an area with sand drifts, the Bakkefeansterdunen. More to the east is a large pingo ruin, the Pûpedobbe. In the north Ald Bakkefean, a wooded area with straight lanes.
