Duerswâld

Circular walk, 15 km

Route: Duerswâld

The walk starts at the Reformed Church of Duerswâld. This Romanesque church was built around 1250.

Then you walk through the Oude Bosch. This production forest was created around 1880. You walk along the Freulevijver. This existing lake was enlarged and embellished into a pond in 1900 by the noble lady Lycklama a Nijeholt.

The walk continues on forest paths and passes a small lake.

On the other side of the Duerswâlder Wei you walk to the Duurswalder Heide. This is the largest heathland in Friesland.

You walk through this vast nature reserve. You walk alternately on forest paths and heaths and you pass several ponds. The fens are former pingo ruins from the ice age.

Then you walk back to the starting point.
