Walk in Gorredijk past churches and places where religious buildings used to be. The oldest church building in Gorredijk is in Kortezwaag, a rural village that is now part of Gorredijk. The church was built in 1797.
On tsjerkepaad.nl you can download a pdf with a description of the route and with more background information about the religious buildings.
We first walk along the Opsterlandse Compagnonsvaart to the former Kortezwaag and then via ’t Weike and the Leijen to the church of Kortezwaag.
On the way we see:
- the Reformed church from 1914;
- the place where the Synagogue used to be;
- the warehouse in which the RK church of Gorredijk was started;
- the Eben Haëzer building;
- a house from 1744;
- the ice rink of Gorredijk;
- an old dilapidated farm.
After a tour around the church we walk further over De Leijen and along the Dwarsfeart back to Gorredijk. We follow Easterein to the left along the Opsterlandse Compagnonsvaart until a bridge. We cross the canal and immediately go left over the Langewal. Via Ra’anana, the Compagnonstraat and Trimbeets we arrive at the Mennonite church. Via the Stationstraat we arrive at the Kerkepad, where we find the remains of the Reformed Church that was demolished in 1983. We end up at the Kerkewal.
On our way we walk around the Christ Light of the World church (RK) and the Meeting church (Protestants).
