Hike from Torre de Santa María to Montánchez and back.
We leave Torre de Santa María on the Camino Montánchez. With a footpath that follows the historic Colada de la Moraleda cattle route, we climb the southeastern slope of the Canchal del Palo (770m). When we reach the highest point, we get a view of Montánchez, a beautiful view over the vineyards to the village whose houses are built on the slopes of the next hill with the ancient castle towering above it.
We reach the village with a country road. We walk into the village to the main square, the Plaza España. The first stage of this walk ends with a visit to the castle ruins.
On the way back we follow a different route through Montánchez. At the edge of the village we arrive at the country road of the way there. We follow this back to the southern slope of the Canchal del Palo (770m). From here we follow a path along the eastern slope of the Canchal and pass the hill on the north side. Via Calle Belén we return to Torre de María.
