Hiking in the Holtingerveld nature reserve

The Holtingerveld is a protected nature reserve in the west of the province of Drenthe, between the villages of Wapserveen, Wittelte, Uffelte, and Havelte. Part of the nature reserve is used as a military training ground, Havelte-Oost. The training ground is freely accessible to hikers under certain conditions. In this part one will find wide sandy roads. The Havelterberg hill lies within the area. The hill is part of a moraine. Two dolmens can be found near the hill. The area also consists of heathlands, drifting sands, forests, and fens.
