The Sauerland is a mountainous region in the south-east of North Rhine-Westphalia and to a small extent in the north-west of Hesse. The highest parts are located in the southeast of the area, which is also known as the Rothaar Mountains. The highest point is on the Langenberg (843.2m). The Hegekopf (843m) and the Kahle Asten (842m) are 2 other well-known peaks. The Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park, which was established in 2015, covers most of the area.
