Órgiva: Camino de Vélez

Alpujarras

Back and forth walk, 11 km

Route: Órgiva: Camino de Vélez

Walk along the access road to the Órgiva mining area. It is a semi-paved road. A quiet road, but there is activity in the mining area, so a car passes occasionally. On working days, the miners' bus also goes back and forth from the village a few times.

stage 1 - forth (5 km 370)

You walk steadily uphill along the Camino de Vélez, from 360 meters to an altitude of 940 meters. The first part passes through the Barranco de los Castillejos, with rugged rocks and lush vegetation. Afterwards, you zigzag your way up the slope of the Sierra de Lújar (1878m). Along the way, you have beautiful views of the Guadalfeo river valley, the mountains of the Alpujarras on the opposite side of the river, and the towering Sierra Nevada, including the peaks Pico del Veleta (3396m) and Pico de Mulhacén (3479m). As soon as we reach the ridge of the slope, we find the path on the right that forms part of the local Ruta de los Mineros trail. From here, there is a beautiful view of the Embalse de Rules reservoir.

stage 2 - back (5 km 370)

You walk back the same way.
