Hiking on the Veluwe

The Veluwe is a predominantly wooded region in the north of the province of Gelderland, sandwiched between the Gelderse Vallei and the IJssel valley. Large parts of the Veluwe consist of moraines, which were created about 150,000 years ago in the penultimate ice age (the Saalian) due to the advancing ice that pushed up river deposits of the Rhine and Meuse. The hill Signal Imbosch is the highest point of the Veluwe at 110 meters.

Two nature parks are located in the southern part of the Veluwe:

  • between Otterlo, Hoenderloo, Deelen and Oud-Reemst: De Hoge Veluwe National Park
  • between Arnhem, Dieren and Eerbeek: Veluwezoom National Park
