There is an extensive dune area between Wijk aan Zee and the Schoorlse Duinen. On average 2.5 km wide, west of the villages of Heemskerk, Castricum, Egmond and Bergen. It is one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands. You will find calcareous dunes, lime-poor dunes, wet dune valleys, dune grasslands, thickets, forests and brushwood. The highest point is located at De Bleek, Egmond aan den Hoef: Albertsdal viewing dune (38.5 m). The North Holland Dune Reserve has been designated as a Natura 2000 area. It is managed by the PWN Water Supply Company North Holland.
