Hiking in the Sierra de Guadarrama national park

The Sierra de Guadarrama is a mountain range northwest of the capital Madrid on the border between the Autonomous Community of Castile and León and the Autonomous Community of Madrid. The mountain range is part of the Central System and lies between the Sierra de Gredos in the southwest and the Sierra de Somosierra in the northeast. The Peñalara (2428m) is the highest peak. Other famous peaks are La Maliciosa (2227m), the Siete Picos (2138m), Bola del Mundo (2265m), El Nevero (2209m), Cabezas de Hierro (2381m) and El Yelmo (1717m). In 2013, the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park was established to better protect the area.
